San Martín Contratistas Generales is awarded a contract for ADIF in Spain.

San Martín Contratistas Generales strengthens its position as a benchmark in the Ibero-American mining sector with a new earthworks contract in Spain.

San Martín, a leading contractor in mining operations, construction, and infrastructure services, has been awarded a new contract to provide earthworks and auxiliary works for the construction of the Tafalla – Campanas section of the High-Speed Train (AVE) and train parking facilities. This project involves the development of the new rail line that will reach Pamplona, in Navarra, Spain.

This contract, executed with General de Maquinaria y Excavación – GME for the consortium formed by Obras y Servicios Copasa, Puentes y Calzadas Infraestructuras, Constructora San José, and Lurpelan Tunnelling, and awarded by ADIF Spain, includes a significant investment in equipment to support the project. Among these are a CAT 352 excavator, two CAT D6N and CAT D6R track-type tractors, six CAT 740 articulated trucks, and a water tanker.

The construction sector is a fundamental pillar of the economy in Spain and Europe. According to recent data, in Spain, the construction industry represents approximately 5.6% of GDP and employs more than 1.3 million people. These figures highlight the sector’s importance not only as a source of employment but also as a driver of economic growth, innovation, and sustainable development. Projects such as the AVE Tafalla – Campanas section not only improve infrastructure and connectivity but also boost local and regional economic growth.

San Martín’s client portfolio includes Hochschild Mining, UNACEM, Shougang Hierro Perú, and Pacasmayo, among others. In the same line, it operates the Alto Rico mine for cement company Argos in Colombia, and in Spain, it has worked with First Quantum Minerals and Riotinto.
